SET THE REKORD STRAIGHT

Started the year off with a great haul of markers from NY -SF trip. Here’s another trio of pick-ups to review from that stretch.
PAPERMATE M5 FLIPCHART MARKER
This seems to be a familiar marker silhouette for Papermate product. Heavy plastic construction, ribbed band between barrel and tip, smooth cylindrical cap. Minimal marking on the side. Just displays PAPERMATE wordmark information in NAVY. Bullet tip. Nice soft nib creates smooth, dark lines. A nice solid marker.
REKOR MARCADOR
I think this might be only the second bootleg Sharpie up for review and inclusion in my marker collection from this huge marker haul of the past month. Super Sharpie silhouette. Made in Mexico. Hecho en DF. Just has the REKORD wordmark and Marcador Permanente written times four on the side label. DOA. Dried out. Smells like a jar full of Maraschino Cherry juice.
PANTONE BY LETRASET
Broad marker. This is the second throwback Pantone marker in my collection. PAper wrap-around label is peeling off at the end. Yellowing white cap is now ivoryish like old piano keys. Different PANTONE wordmark styling on the label indicates different year of production. Made in USA. Makes thick, deep, black lines. No bleed. Ink property is similar to metal barrel Dixon or Berol Liquid Tips. Odor is something rank. Perhaps the odor and fumes is what made the paper label peel off. Nice streamlined plastic design. Rounded square shape. Good looking design marker.

VINTAGE. SLASH. RETRO.

Older style markers have a good look.

SELECTUM - I am usually not a fan of markers that have stick on labels, but I really think it works well on this marker. It is a vertical rather than horizontal sticker, and looks well worn and old in contrast to the actual marker itself. Octagonal base, bullet point. White cap and base, which normally looks odd, but not here.

PANTONE BY LETRASET – I think I got this one in SF at the Junk shop. In fact I remember I did, because I picked up this sheet of semi-used Black Letraset black stick paper, and thought this would be a good pairing. Classic and clean design, which is in line with whatever merchandise Pantone licenses to make. Nice rounded square body, clean lines, the cap almost feels like piano keys. Nice thick chisel tip, produces heavy black lines, and smells like a black permanent marker should. Hazy. Really nice font choices throughout the layout. This is one of my favorite markers style wise and design wise.

PAPERMATE DOUBLE ENDED – I found this one in the back of a variety shop on Parliament. I think its from the 70’s. Really simple streamlined design. Broad tip on one side, fine tip on the other. The minimal labeling that is on the marker is done in a fine silver, which matches the nice metal clip on the top cap. The other thing I bought from the variety store that night was Coffee flavored Coke. That stuff tasted really, really nasty.
